Postdoctoral researcher in vacuum microelectronics

The Nanonphysics Center at Reykjavík University (nano.ru.is) has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher for a two-year position, extendable to three years, in the field of vacuum electronics. The succesful candidate will collaborate on efforts to design and carry out an experiment to generate THz radiation from space charge induced current modulation in vacuum microdiodes1,2.

The project is primarily experimental, with some simulation involved, and is done in collaboration with partners at the Iceland Innovation Center, University of Texas, Arlington, Boise State University and Imperial College, London. The job duties for this position are primarily the design and construction of the microdiode system, including emission and current diagnostics. The candidate will also be involved in design of the outcoupling device from the diode and in THz detection.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science or related fields. Experience with experimental vacuum electronics or plasma physics and microstructures is advantageous.

Application: The application deadline is March 20, 2017. Please apply with a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and statement of interest in a single pdf file. Please arrange for three letters of recommendation. All application material should be sent to av@ru.is with the subject heading "postdoc". Any questions regarding working in Iceland or about Reykjavík University should be sent to mannaudur@ru.is.

Availability: The position is available from June 1, although this is negotiable to an extent.

Workplace: Reykjavík University has around 3600 students and 240 employees in four academic faculties: Science and Engineering, Computer Science, Business, and Law. The University is centrally located in Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland. We offer a welcoming and stimulating environment in which to work and live. Reykjavik is located approximately 3 hours flight time from London and 5 ½ hours flight from Boston. The succesful applicant will work in our facilities in Reykjavík, but there will be some travel involved.
