Officer Information technology and digital policy - Internal Market Division

The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is an intergovernmental organisation set up for the promotion of free trade and economic integration between its four Member States: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The EFTA Secretariat provides services to the EFTA States. In Brussels this entails support in the management of the EEA Agreement. 

This position is open to nationals of the EFTA Member States.

The Internal Market Division is responsible for giving support and assistance to the EFTA States in their work related to the EEA Agreement. The Division consists of 20 persons and among them 13 officers responsible for one or several of the policy fields of the EU’s Single Market which are within the scope of the EEA Agreement. 


The work as an officer consists of facilitating and coordinating the work of one or several of the Sectoral EFTA Working and Expert Groups related to the incorporation of EU legislation into the EEA Agreement.


We are looking for a highly motivated and competent candidate to take on the responsibility for core areas related to the Digital Single Market, such as electronic communication, cybersecurity, audiovisual media services, the information society, online platforms, digital privacy and postal services. Tasks within other policy fields covered by the EEA Agreement might be assigned depending on the candidates’ background and the needs of the Division.

Responsibilities include:
• Coordinate, facilitate and provide support services to the EFTA Working and Expert Groups on Electronic Communication, Audiovisual Services and Information Society (ECASIS), Postal Services and Data Protection;
• Monitor and inform about the development of EU policy and legislation;
• Case-handling and coordination with and between the EEA EFTA States and the EU related to the incorporation of relevant EU acts into the EEA Agreement;
• Organise meetings and events, including preparing agendas and reports and taking care of practical arrangements;
• Draft policy documents and position papers;
• Information and presentations to stakeholders and interest groups;
• Take on and contribute to other tasks and common projects as needed.

The job entails frequent contact and coordination with national administrations of the EFTA States, the EU Commission services, the EU External Action Service and the EFTA Missions to the EU in Brussels. Officers also participate in relevant EU forums and committees including attending and reporting from meetings and hearings in the European Parliament.
